Gail K. Benjamin is a graduate of Brunswick High School. She earned a bachelor of science in recreation education, magna cum laude, from Virginia State College (University). She retired from D.C. Parks and Recreation after more than 30 years of service, beginning as a part-time per diem, to recreation center manager, to ward manager to department-wide volunteer coordinator. She coordinated with organizations to build playgrounds, to build a spray park, to build a skate board park, to paint murals, to plant trees, to develop hiking and biking trails, to produce a television commercial with the Washington Redskins promoting community service, and to conduct community clean ups. She has coached flag football, basketball, soccer, softball and little league baseball. She loves watching professional football and baseball at all levels. She enjoys traveling, reading, biking and “sitting on the porch”. She is married and has a son who graduated from South Carolina State and a daughter-in-love, a stepdaughter and son-in-love, a step-son and three adorable grandchildren.
