How did GRASP and its advisors help you in high school/college?

In high school, GRASP helped me excel as a student through taking courses that later expanded my interest in subjects in college, following with career interests. I worked closely with advisors and teachers alike who aided me in my early academic career and led to my success in graduating.

What are you doing now?

Currently I work as a Patient Transporter for VCU Health. Although it is different from what I studied in school, I have been working there for three years and developed experience outside of work focusing on the historical field. I am in docent training with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and I am working on a remote internship with the University of Maryland. Both are unpaid experiences, but are beneficial in what I pursue long term for my career.

What educational advice would you give to high school students?

When you get into college, do not stress about focusing on one major of your choice when it gets difficult. Nothing is ever perfect on the first go round, and it will take time to find what you’re interested in. Most importantly, networking is an essential key to get far in your future.

What is the biggest life challenge you faced relative to your educational path?

Learning how to balance everything between school, work, and my social life. Things will easily slip by if you don’t pay attention to your surroundings. It’s better to balance what’s important and what’s fun.
