Haleigh Deem, Highland High School Class of 2020. Bridgewater College, 2024.

I attended Highland High School, and then studied Psychology at Bridgewater College. I have received my B.S. in Psychology and I am now looking into Master's programs in Forensic Psychology. Currently, I am undecided between Walden University and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

How did GRASP help you?

GRASP became a very important thing in my life once I started college. Besides the financial support, the monthly emails provided me with a lot of information and reminders. I was able to obtain help and advice at the click of an email, which truly enriched my experience.

What are you doing now?

Currently, I am working as the Highland County Board of Equalization Secretary. I will be starting a Master's program in forensic psychology around August and I hope to get a job within my field.

What advice would you give to high school students?

I would tell high school students not to be afraid to ask for help. College is a scary transition and it is not easy, nor is it supposed to be. Jump right in and surround yourself with support systems and you will do just fine.

What was your biggest challenge on your educational journey?

The biggest life challenge relevant to my educational path was my diagnosis of having Celiac Disease my sophomore year. I was sick a lot which added a lot of stress on top of the expected stress of being a full time student. I had to change my diet completely which added extra stressors of food accessibility. I asked for help, received help, and I made it through. There is always a solution, it is just a matter of knowing when to ask for assistance.

I am so appreciative of all the help GRASP has given me these last 4+ years. I would not have been able to graduate from Bridgewater College and go further now had I not had it.
